Chair Person

Mamiza Makhathini

Mamiza Makhathini is a self-made business woman that has a passion for success and does not allow anything to stand in her way. Mamiza has 18 years of experience in the services and catering industry and has been recognized by the industry and peers as an entrepreneur and successful business woman. With accolades such as the winner of the Small Business Category and overall premium awards at the Zululand Chamber of Commerce and the Industry (ZCCI) Business Excellence Awards in Empangeni, it is a clear testimony of Mamiza’s drive, passion and outstanding value that she brings to the industry and her community. Mamiza started her own company Smiso Investment in 2002 from her garage and since then grew her company to manage more than 300 employees. She is known for her resilience and her ability to always push frontiers. She is a firm advocate of programmes that focusses on the skills development of entrepreneurs. She has a real passion for empowering women and found her best fit joining Unique Facilities Services a 100% woman owned South African company.

Chief Executive Officer

Vernè Furniss

Vernè has more than 25 years of specialist industry experience within decision making, planning and strategizing at an executive and CEO level. She was the founder of Ukweza Holdings (later sold to JSE Listed CSG Holdings) which she successfully pioneered, established, and developed as a start-up out-sourcing food, health, events, catering, and cleaning services company.

Vernè has a wealth of experience in analysing, interpreting and managing financial operations including developing, implementing and managing high-value budgets and business development projects

Chief Operating Officer

Lydia Benatar

Lydia's more than 25 years of experience at senior management and directorate level in the service industry has equipped her with sound business judgment, planning and organisational skills. As a founding member of Ukweza Holdings established in 1993, her hands on approach while in the position of COO was instrumental in the growth of the company. Lydia was responsible for more than 85 clients and 1200 staff.

From 2009 to 2017 Lydia ran her new business ShuttleDirect Shuttle Services. She is now returning to the food service industry with Unique Facilities Services Africa (UFS Africa).

Director DRC

Edouard Kasongo

Mr Kasongo is a DRC national and is based in Lubumbashi, Katanga Province, DRC. He studied Humanities, Marketing and Leadership at a tertiary level. He has a wealth of experience in business and specifically the mining sector in DRC.

He has partnered with Gecamines, the state-owned mining Company, on various occasions and over many years. The mining companies he has been associated with operate in various provinces of the DRC and specialise in copper, diamonds and gold mining. Mr Kasongo is a Director of a civil engineering firm in Lubumbashi.
